On February 28th, 2021, the 6” line that Serimax welded was recovered from the seabed and linked to semi-submersible without any issues, giving an end to this wonderful success in China.
About the project
China’s Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC), established in Bohay Bay, is one of the largest contractors for offshore oil and gas industry in the Asia Pacific region. Approximately 57% of it is owned by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), the largest producer of offshore crude oil and natural gas in China.
Lingshui 17-2, the first deepwater project ever developed in China, started its journey in 2019, with COOEC overseeing deep-water development. Its deepwater pipeline installation campaign was started last year with the first 6’’ Steel Catenary Risers installation on Deep Water in China; the last weld of this first SCR being performed last August 2020.
Despite the uncertainty and the challenge triggered by the pandemic, the overall offshore SCR installation windows have not been delayed and the performance on board of HYS201 has even led to schedule optimization.
Astounding teamwork
Serimax Welding Services, the international welding subcontractor, was awarded for the welding of this 2.93Km *6“ SCR. Serimax mobilized 67 international workers from Paris (France), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), London (UK) end of July 2020 to Hanan (China) despite harsh condition with multiple quarantine imposed in China and abroad.
The field depth of 1,450 meter triggered significant technical challenge due to the fatigue sensitiveness of the SCR. In order to meet the ambitious challenge of China’s first deepwater project, it was necessary to start preparing for it in the last quarter of 2019 to address several actions and handle all aspects.
Last campaign of SCR installation (10’’/12’’/ 18’’) will be launched in the coming weeks in a still uncertain environment due to the pandemic.
In recognition of the work done, the Serimax Malaysia teams are proud to have received a letter of thanks from the project team.
